Creamy, dreamy, guilt-free ice cream with just one ingredient? And no ice cream maker required? It sounds too good to be true, right? I thought so too when I first heard about it, but believe me, this recipe is 100% real. (Does it even count as a recipe if it’s just one ingredient?)
And the secret ingredient is… frozen bananas.
Here’s what you do: take three ripe bananas, slice them into coins, and place them in one layer on a plate in the freezer for at least two hours. When you’re sure the bananas are good and frozen, dump half of the banana slices into your food processor and pulse. At first it will look sort of like flash frozen ice cream, but just a few seconds more in the food processor and the bananas will take on the texture of frozen yogurt. Do the same with the rest of the banana slices and dig in!
You can add whatever flavorings you want — I’m a big fan of adding a couple of teaspoons of cinnamon to the mix. Cocoa powder, chocolate chips, nutella, and peanut butter would all be delicious additions too. However, you really don’t need to add anything to the bananas. As long as they’re nice and ripe, they’re sweet and tasty enough all on their own.
…Dude, are you seriously still sitting here reading this right now?!? Go throw some bananas in your freezer and get to eating!

*I have to thank my friend Audrey for telling me about her Yonanas and inspiring me to give it a try using my food processor. I have an awesome food processor (this Ninja set), so I had no problem achieving super creamy results without the specialized Yonanas appliance. However, if your food processor is a little older or the blade isn’t super sharp, it may take a bit more pulsing to get the job done. Just be patient though — it’s so worth it!
