I’m Kamille, and I am a lover of food. I love to cook it, I love to read about it, and most importantly, I love to eat it. This has always been true. My life-long passion for food has meant regularly enduring one of my dad’s favorite down-home expressions: “A second on the lips, a lifetime on the hips.” Growing up, I never really gave this too much thought. After all, what normal ten year old worries about her figure?
And then I went to college. Sigh.
There, away from the comforts of home and my mother’s wholesome cooking, I discovered the warm embrace of Entenmann’s donuts and chili-cheese fries. I learned to think of entire pints of ice cream as a single serving size.
In the beginning, I relied on frozen diet meals and grilled chicken breasts. I quickly realized that wasn’t going to be enough. For someone who loves food as much as I do, having the same tasteless salad night after night was just not realistic. I started to teach myself to cook. Now, sixty-five pounds lighter and healthier, I want to share the things I’ve learned and the food I love.
You can eat healthy and delicious food every day without sacrificing flavor. It just takes a little effort. A Second on the Lips is all about showing you how. Thanks for reading — now go have fun in your kitchen!
